Since my competition is next year, I answered these questions based on a recent competition that I've entered with the school's auxiliary team. This competition was called Battle of the Dancelines.
    A. What is your competition about? Give specific facts & details about your competition. Talk about the history of the competition (two or more sentences). Who can participate? What are the rules for participation?
The competition is about creating different dance routines to the best of your ability, having more experience with the real world as a dancer, and getting more publicity. The competition was broken up into three categories: a dance routine, a stand routine, and a battle stand routine. Dance teams of different schools and organizations had to battle against each other for different prizes.

    B. What did you learn about your competition (5 sentences). Do you have any videos, pictures or other information to share to help US understand about your competition and WHY it's important?
I learned that in order to win, you must really be dedicated and that the way you practice is the way you'll perform. I also learned that the categories for judging is very biased. Additionally, if you want to win a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place, your team must be in the larger division. There is only a good, excellent, and superior trophy for the small division. It is very important that the coach of the team choose the right people to compete because if he/she chooses the individuals that may stumble and may be forgetful about the routines, then it may affect their placement in the competition.
a video of Langston Hughes Sophisticatz is below:

superior trophies. If you wanted to enter to win a scholarship, you would have to be a senior and have a good level of education. You would also have to be able to dance really good. There was a $1000 check for a dance scholarship.
    D. What wswas the end
The end result for the competition was that our team, Langston Hughes Sophisticatz earned the excellent trophy. Since we were in the small division, we could not compete for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies. Changes that I would make is that the coach should allow us to add our own creativity to the routine instead of just learning the routine she teaches us because we are judged on creativity. I also think that we should be able to choose our own uniforms instead of it being a surprise to us because we are judged on our uniforms as well.
    E. Self-Evaluation: What did you like about the competition? How did participating in your competition help you reach your goals? If you could do things over, what would you change and why?
The only thing I liked about the competition was the experience. It helped me be prepared for the real world of dance. If I could do things over, I would change portions of the routines. I would also ask the coach to ask to change the way different people on the team practice because if you dance lazy in practice and not do everything full out, then you'll probably do the same thing when it's time to actually perform. I don't think everyone was prepared enough to participate in the competition.

Rules: Music must not have profanity and has to be pre-edited, teams must respect each other, no boys allowed in the dressing rooms unless they are apart of a performance, teams can only get one run-through, and more.

There was a large division (teams who had a large amount of people) who battled for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies. And there was a small division (teams who had a small amount of people) who battled for good, excellent, and superior trophies.
    D. What ws the end result of your participation in the competition? What changes can you make in order to participate next year?
